After finishing her Bachelor Degree in Architecture in the State University in Uruguay, Ximena traveled to the United States where she was granted the Koch Fellowship to pursue master studies in Architecture. For her thesis work she studied the possibilities for community participation in the architectural design of low-income housing. At the same time Ximena took leadership and development courses in the Payson Center for International Development where she became interested in environmental design. In 2004 she earned a certificate in Permaculture (Permanent Agriculture) and became LEED certified by the US Green Building Council.

In the early years of her career Ximena participated in the design of several private and public facilities working for architecture and construction firms. While attending Tulane University Ximena was involved in several community projects working jointly with Tulane professors and fellow students. These activities included the design of community gardens and markets, and the training of the Energy Corps for the Alliance for Affordable Energy in New Orleans.

At the end of year 2004 Ximena started to work with Concordia LLC. To date she has participated in several community planning projects located in Philadelphia, Seattle, and Tallulah.

Concordia Project Experience:
• District Master Planning for the Santa Monica/Malibu Unified School District
Role: Project Manager, Community Participation
Concordia is on a team selected to prepare a Facilities Assessment and comprehensive Master Plan that will guide the District’s school improvements for the next 20 years. Concordia is the lead team, and Bobbie is the project director for providing community engagement and master planning services for the combined school districts of Malibu and Santa Monica.
• Long Range Program Planning for Seattle District Schools
Role: Project manager
Concordia's role was to develop a comprehensive plan to assist Seattle Public Schools achieve the goals established for the Career and Technical Education program including the transformation to small learning communities.

• Nexus Center Planning, Citywide, and the Algiers Neighborhood
Role: Project Manager
Concordia has been funded by the Greater New Orleans Education Foundation to develop a citywide plan for Nexus Center development. Nexus is a planning model developed around the concepts of equity, accessibility, environmental sustainability, co-governance and decentralization. The community Nexus center is a public place where a wide range of programs and services are co-located. It is a particular kind of neighborhood center defined as a place where services such as banking, social services, and retail are located in close proximity to create synergy and become a locus of neighborhood activities.
• Community Planning, 2 Neighborhoods in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Role: Project Manager
The William Penn Foundation funded Concordia to lead the West Philadelphia and Kensington neighborhoods in a seven month community planning process. Using a systemic planning approach, the community explored and identified the community needs and resources, looking for ways to integrate programs and services in the development of their new and renovated schools.

• Master Plan for St. Luke's Episcopal Church and School, Baton Rouge, LA

Role: Project Manager

Through a series of meetings with the Saint Luke’s community, including School and Church leadership, staff, students, parents, and parishioners, Concordia facilitated the process of constructing a collaborative plan to help determine future options for the development of the campus that is based on pre-defined growth scenarios.
