After finishing her Bachelor Degree in Architecture in the State University in Uruguay, Ximena traveled to the United States where she was granted the Koch Fellowship to pursue master studies in Architecture. For her thesis work she studied the possibilities for community participation in the architectural design of low-income housing. At the same time Ximena took leadership and development courses in the Payson Center for International Development where she became interested in environmental design. In 2004 she earned a certificate in Permaculture (Permanent Agriculture) and became LEED certified by the US Green Building Council.
In the early years of her career Ximena participated in the design of several private and public facilities working for architecture and construction firms. While attending Tulane University Ximena was involved in several community projects working jointly with Tulane professors and fellow students. These activities included the design of community gardens and markets, and the training of the Energy Corps for the Alliance for Affordable Energy in New Orleans.
At the end of year 2004 Ximena started to work with Concordia LLC. To date she has participated in several community planning projects located in Philadelphia, Seattle, and Tallulah.
