Concordia is leading the West Philadelphia and Kensington neighborhoods in Philadelphia through a planning process to develop a vision for the redesign and reconfiguration of the neighborhoods' high schools. This process takes place over a seven month period with public Steering Committee meetings held each month. The recommendations and strategies developed through the process for the high schools siting will help guide the Philadelphia School District and the two neighborhoods in improving the local educational opportunities.
Participants in the Concordia Community Planning Process are led through a process that is intended to open their minds to new ideas about school facilities and learning communities. Working on six subcommittees (social, cultural, educational, physical, organizational, and economic), Steering Committee Members identified, catalogued, and mapped community assets and opportunities. They then developed potential scenarios for their learning community and achieved consensus on a final set of recommendations and a strategy for implementation. These recommendations will be compiled into a final report that will be presented before the School District, municipal authorities, donors and other organizations.
