Tuskegee Airmen Memorial for Equity and Social Justice

The Tuskegee Airmen Memorial will be a monument to a unique team of African American fighter pilots and crew who served their country in the Second World War at home and abroad. These individuals have been recognized internationally for their dedication to the principles of democracy and freedom in the face of overwhelming individual and institutional obstacles.

More than a monument, the TAM will be a living center for the development of educational programs and public policy related to equity and social justice. Located on a site overlooking the original Moton Field in Tuskegee, Alabama, the memorial will stand as an enduring testament to the inspiration of some of America’s most patriotic citizens. Its mission will be to promote courage and determination through educational and public policy programs for the benefit of future generations to follow.

The public educational and policy programs for the memorial will be created thorough a community-based planning process. Through this process hundreds of adults and youth will be engaged nationally in exploring the physical, cultural, social, educational, organizational and economic components of equity and social justice and how the principles formulated by the Tuskegee Airmen can be applied to advance democracy and freedom for all Americans.

The Tuskegee Airmen Memorial will be developed by the Tuskegee Airmen Memorial Incorporated, a non-profit 501-C-3 organization. The TAM is currently in the process of developing partnerships and funding for the planning and implementation of this innovative national site and program.

This project was developed in collaboration with artist John Scott.

My Grandfather was a Tuskegee Airmen( Earnest Taylor), I to have pictures of him in uniform as well as his plan, my family and I recently learned that he went in at the end of the war, but also found out that my cousin on my Grandmother's side was one of the Tuskegee Airmen pilot instructors (also an Airmen)-Milton Crenshaw

Will you also display the names and photos of those Airmen who served but did not make it home? One such Fighter Pilot was Second Lt. Wendell Hockaday of Norfolk, Virginia. The family has some pictures of him in uniform. His dream was to become an architect.
