Project Management for Lagniappe Project and Academies

Concordia is serving both project management and master planning roles for the Lagniappe Project of New Orleans – a comprehensive community development focused around a charter school, community health center, senior center, and other ancillary services. The charter school, Lagniappe Academies, was awarded a state charter and Concordia is master planning both a temporary site and a long-term site that will eventually be home to 1500 k-12 students in small learning communities including two elementary, two middle and one high school.

Lagniappe Academies believes that students need more than just a strong school to succeed – they need a strong community. We are working with community leaders, national partners, city organizations, and cultural institutions to build a community “nexus” around the schools. A nexus is community “center” or “hub” where the neighborhood’s physical, cultural, social, economic, organizational and educational needs are met through programs and facilities under the leadership of neighborhood residents and organizational and institutional partners. The community will be involved in the design process to determine their unique requirements. The comprehensive nexus facilities and programs will be clustered together creating a one-mile, walkable community.
