Brittney Everett received her Bachelor of Science in Architecture as well as her Masters of Architecture from the University of Cincinnati, one of the nation’s top architecture universities. While in school, she worked as a cooperative education student studying architecture, interior design, and urban planning. She had the opportunity to work in a number of different cities around the country, study abroad in Copenhagen, and explore Europe. In 2006, Brittney became a LEED Accredited Professional. She also became the President of Students for Ecological Design where she organized sustainability initiatives and lectures for school. Brittney worked as a Teaching Assistant throughout her college career, instructing studio, drawing, computer, and history courses.

After traveling to New Orleans in 2007 to help with rebuilding, Brittney become very passionate about the city and its recovery. She returned to New Orleans the following spring to do an internship at Concordia and research for her thesis. Her project evolved into a critique of urban borders, contested sites, and social justice. She proposed transforming static border vacuums into dynamic urban inflections that act as connective, malleable tissues in the urban landscape. Her design response created a narrative for a site in New Orleans that makes a significant political commentary about the paradoxical nature of the city. She received the award for Outstanding Graduate Student, a Citation for Design Research, and the award for Most Distinguished Design. Her work was recently published in “Re.Building,” the proceedings of the 2010 Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA) Annual Meeting.

Brittney is now back in New Orleans working full-time with Concordia and continuing her research of contested borders. She works with the Rethink organization that gives young students a voice in re-thinking their education and school facilities. Brittney is also a member of the Green Collaborative Steering Committee and Emerging Green Builders New Orleans.
