Tulane University School of Business
New Orleans, LA
1987
The 75,000 square foot Goldring Woldenberg Hall represents the state of the art in business education facilities. The first floor is used exclusively for teaching, with a large auditorium and six lecture theaters, each with a stepped horseshoe shaped floor. The second floor is dedicated to Student Services and includes a three level high arched and clerestory lit atrium space, the major student lounge area. The third floor houses the large business library, and offices for administrators and secretaries are located on the fourth floor. This floor acts as a buffer between the students in their library and lounge and the faculty offices located above on the 5th and 6th floors.
The School of Business design reflects the architectural character of the Tulane campus. Stepped massing and articulated brick relief arches express the interior’s organization and arched atrium space, while also repeating the geometry of the Romanesque gables found on many of the stone buildings on campus. Exterior red brick facing and cast stone lintels also match the neighboring buildings. Over 100 bas relief Iris medallions, made by a local ceramicist, punctuate the facade.
