Jefferson Parish Economic Development Commission (JEDCO)

Westwego, LA
2011

The new Jefferson Economic Development Corporation (JEDCO) headquarters is a center for business development and growth in the parish neighboring New Orleans. Within this center three separate program areas were needed: management offices and conference rooms, worker’s offices, and the business incubator, which provides flexible office spaces for entrepreneurial businesses. Instead of one large building JEDCO headquarters is split into three separate building volumes. Though organizationally independent the three volumes are linked by a circular roof canopy facing the main circular courtyard.

Sustainable materials and energy efficient systems are used throughout the interior and exterior of building, especially the site landscape. Emphasizing native plant species and site characteristics, a constructed wetland environment will provide stormwater management to reduce flooding. Artworks will be placed throughout the complex in the outdoor courtyard, pubic reception lobbies and private offices. JEDCO headquarters will also serve as a control, response and resource center for businesses within the region before, during and after disasters.
