Liberian Renaissance Education Complex

Liberian Renaissance Education Complex

Concordia recently completed a master plan for the Liberian Renaissance Education Complex in the West African country of Liberia. The project will be a centerpiece for the redevelopment of educational and workforce infrastructure for this war torn country . Included is a full range of pre-K through 12 learning sites plus a national events center and other joint use public amenities. Given a severe countrywide shortage of electrical power, the project will be completely energy independent and sustainable. Native customs and aesthetic icons, such as decorative patterns and Palaba Huts (traditional structures within which disputes are resolved) are among some of the planning elements. The floor plans and educational programming follow a model developed by the Big Picture Company (with planning and architectural support from Concordia llc) in Providence, Rhode Island. The Liberian Renaissance Education Complex is being developed in collaboration with a local Liberian architectural firm, which will be responsible for its technical implementation.
